Brett Dillingham was back!
By Bonno and Sam We can imagine you saw storyteller Brett Dillingham walking around in school at the start of September, be-cause he came to visit us once again! We think he really likes us because he came all the way from Alaska to teach us storytelling. For all of you who don’t know who Brett Dillingham is, he is an American storyteller who has come to ISD loads of times already. He taught ISD’s 6th and 7th grade students how to write stories and present them with expression. Last year the 6th grade made their own stories with the help of Brett’s good tips and we had a lot of fun listening to his stories (though sometimes they were not realistic). This year 7th grade made their own stories and learned the process of making stories. 7th graders generated ideas, wrote them down on paper, then practiced sharing the stories to each other, After, they presented them to younger grades. We presented our stories on the 16th of September. Each class had four class periods with him. We can all thank Ms. Maly-Schmidt for organizing these great times. The 7th graders said it was really cool to work in the storytelling workshop. It will be fun to work with a professional storyteller this year. |
Brett Basics
By Jana Brent Dillingham was born in 1958, in Iowa, but he has lived in Alaska for most of his life, so he likes to say he’s from Alaska. He has been storyteller for 21 years, which means he started in 1990. He says the best part of his job is to hear students tell stories to him. Brett says he doesn’t like coming to ISD, but he loves it! He thinks that the students are wonderful and the parents are so supportive and the teachers understand that storytelling is very important. Brett’s favorite story changes over time, but his current favorites are: Raven Day, Ali Baba and The Magic Donkey, Skeleton Woman and The Things Willy Wonkabill Saw. Now he has left us and gone to Alaska. We hope to see him again next year. |
